Footwell LED lighting '09 Wrangler X

I decided the Next DIY mod I would do on the Jeep would be to add some LED lighting in the footwells.

I picked up two strips of LED lights from autozone and ordered a Daystar Rocker Switch from Amazon.  The LED strips had enough wiring that I didnt require any additional.  The goal for this was to add some light to the footwells wich are very dark.  I wanted to the lights to come on when I turned my headlights on but I also wanted a kill switch so I could turn them off for long drives or if I just didnt want them on at the same time as the headlights.

HOW TO- STACK REMOVAL- First take apart the center stack of the dash.  For me this was very scary.  Ripping into this brand new vechicle and not knowing what I was doing was nerve racking, but I did it.  To remove the center stack first take the lower panel off buy using a screwdirver to pry from the top of it.  It will pop out very easily.  Next is to remove the upper dash panel by using a screwdriver to pry from the back of it and it will pop off easily as well.  This should unveil 4 screws (if i remember correctly) unscrew those and the entire face of the stack will then pop off with some applied force, carefull not to lose the little metal clips.

WIRING- Once you have access to the wires behind the stack you should see the grouping that goes into the temperature control for heat and air.  The orange and grey wire is the wire to tie into if you want the set up that I desired.  Take the red wires from your LED strips and tie them into that grey and orange wire.  Wire up your switch and your good to go.

Everything re-installs on the stack in Reverse.

Upper and Lower Dash Panels '09 Wrangler X

Since I just started blogging I thought I would back track a little bit and update some of you on a recent modifications I have done on my '09 Jeep Wrangler X.  When I bought this jeep it was bone stock 255/75/16 tires, basic steel wheels and no fancy options, not many options at all actually.  One of the first things I did by myself with the jeep was to install a Daystar upper dash panel and Daystar lower dash switch panel.

At the tope of the center stack of the dash there is a basic flat panel that didnt serve any purpose.  Daystar has an upper DashPanel that makes some use of this space with a piece of plastic that has two spaces to put change, phone, glasses....etc.

How I did it-  This one was simple.  I took a flat head screwdriver and stuck it behind the existing top panel and pried up.  There are no screws holding this panel on it is just snapped in.  The New upper dash panel does not come with the metal clips needed to hold it in place so be sure and retreve those from the stock panel.  After replacing the metal clips on the Daystar panel just pop it right back on, put the front of it in place first and then snap in the back.  DONE

At the bottom of the stack there is a flat peice of plastic with notihng on it.  This is where I chose to put my future switches for fogs, LED, driving lights....etc.

How I did it- Much like the upper pannel the lower is not screwed in.  Use a flat head screwdriver and pry the plastic from the top.  It pops out.  Again save the Metal clips, put them on the new panel and in reverse put the Daystar switch panel back on.

New to the BLOG sceen

I consider myself to be a fairly savey when it comes to technology and basic electronic components and things like that but I must admit I have never "blogged".  Everywhere I look someone has started a new blog or is "blogging" with someone or whatever, but I just never really understood the concept of it.  As a matter of fact I was not ever on MySpace and only about a year ago did I join Facebook.  I dont know why but it just didnt appeal to me. So now here I am sitting at the gym and bored so I figured I would see what all the buzz is about and start myself a blog.  For those of you that may follow me on this blog be warned that the content will all be very random and mostly just a way for me to kill time.  So here we go.........
